Russian mixed martial artist Vadim Nemkov explained why he managed to defeat the American Corey Anderson in the Bellator Grand Prix Final.
The title fight between light heavyweight belt holder Nemkov and former UFC fighter Anderson has become the main event of the Bellator 288 tournament in the United States. After the completion of five rounds, the judges unanimously gave the victory to the Russian. Judges’ score: 48–47 and 49–46 (twice).
– Corey tried to knock you down 15 times, but you defended all those attempts. Why did you manage to do it?
Because I am well prepared. I had no traps. I developed a very high speed, against which he could not do anything. Like I said, in rematches I always win if they don’t believe in me.
— The left jab and the low kick helped you a lot in this fight. Was this the plan?
– Yeah, I wanted to hold him off with a jab. I know he leaned heavily on his front leg. Left jab, smash his front leg… He spun to his right, but it didn’t work to bring him down. He held up really well,” Nemkov said after the fight.
The first fight between rivals in April was declared invalid due to a cut in the Russian.
Nemkov defended his Bellator light heavyweight title for the third time. The Russian fighter is 30 years old, he has 15 MMA victories including two defeats. Corey Anderson suffered his sixth loss with 16 wins to his name.
