The director of coaching staff of the Russian national judo teams said that the national team leaders confirmed their status in the Czech Republic and at the Chelyabinsk tournament.

Director of coaching staff of the Russian national judo team, Honored Coach of Russia Vitaly Makarov told that the leaders of the national team managed to confirm their status at the national championship in Yekaterinburg and at the tournament international in memory of Grigory Verichev in Chelyabinsk.

The Russian Judo Championship took place from October 31 to November 4. Competitions in Chelyabinsk started on November 19, and judokas from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mongolia and Israel are taking part in the tournament.

– How do you rate the performance of the team members at the Russian Championship and the Chelyabinsk tournament?

– In principle, nothing supernatural and surprises happened. The leaders have confirmed their status. However, the participation of so many teams in the Russian championship is probably a big obstacle for young people who could enter the national team lists. The fewer serious opponents you have, the more chances you have to get on the podium and thus get into the national team, where you can already grow among the experienced.

As for the leaders of the women’s and men’s teams, for us, perhaps, in some weights, unforeseen and unexpected things happened. But, in general, the leaders have proven everything, the picture is the same.

– Do they remain leaders not only in Russia, but also globally?

– Sure. Certainly, at the moment, we are not allowed to prove that we are leaders on a world scale. We understand the strength of those guys and girls training on the national team and those keeping fit at home. It’s a big difference. Therefore, we are forced to bring many collections to internal tournaments in order to have a competitive practice. Yes, these are not Grand Slam tournaments, nor world and European championships, but it is still a competitive practice that must be. Training is training and competitions should be periodic.

‘I have often observed your emotions. Of course, everything boils inside you watching the competition, but you manage to hold yourself back…

“Naturally, I have a volcano in me. It’s just that this nervousness and excitement should not be passed on to athletes in any way. I have to hold everything inside me, and in fact there are more experiences than during of my performance on the mat.

– When you look at the coaches of the Israeli national team, everything is different with them…

– Yes. But there are also punishments. If you do not behave very well, defiantly, you can simply be removed from the detachment. And the athlete pays for it, again. Therefore, there are certain rules for the athlete and the coach. We do not neglect them. On the contrary, we follow.
