Usman Nurmagomedov beat Freire to become the new Bellator champion

Chicago hosts the Bellator 288 tournament. In the co-main event of the event, a lightweight title battle took place, in which Usman Nurmagomedov and brazilian belt holder Patrick Freire .

Usman was close to finishing the opponent in the second round, as the Brazilian was practically in passive defense against a hail of blows from the opponent. However, a powerful attack from a native of Dagestan took place just before the gong.

As a result, the fight went through all five rounds, after which Nurmagomedov won by court decision.

Now Usman has 16 wins, he remains undefeated in the professional ring. Freire suffered his sixth loss with 34 wins.

As part of the tournament card, Imam-Shafi Aliyev defeated American Sean Connor Fallon by TKO in the third round. For a fighter from Dagestan, this was his Bellator debut.

Timur Khizriev also won his first fight in the promotion, beating Germany’s Daniel Weichel by unanimous decision.
