After Fury’s victory over Chisora, the fight between the Gypsy King and Usyk became closer. But there are still too many questions.

In the fight with Chisora, Fury did not fulfill the main task – he could not avoid injury

On Saturday evening, the WBC heavyweight world champion British boxer Tyson Fury for the third time in his career, the second – defeated Derek Chisor ahead of schedule, defending his title and bringing the number of winning fights in the pro ring to 33. Immediately after the end of the fight, Oleksandr Usyk and then Joe Joyce got into the ring, giving some status not to the most significant in terms of boxing.

Judging by Fury’s furious statement, he preferred the duel with Usyk, and some specialized sites have already begun to talk about the fight as a fait accompli. And although the fight between the Gypsy King and Chisora has removed some questions regarding a possible duel with Usyk, his organization is still seen as problematic.

What could have prevented the Usyk-Fury fight?

At first, the base date announced by Usyk’s promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk, February 18, raised doubts. Too little time, and to be more precise, only two and a half months should have passed since the fight between Fury and Chisora. Despite the huge difference in the class of the two boxers, there were still fears that the powerful and assertive Chisora could cause some problems for Fury. Not to mention the danger for the Gypsy King to get injured or seriously injured. And even earlier in his career, if we are talking about status fights, Fury did such short breaks between fights only once: two and a half months ago between the fights of the Briton with Sefer Seferi and Francesca Pianeta. But both of these boxers are not Chisora, and definitely not Usyk.

But all fears were in vain. Chisora is already defeating age, and Derek’s fuse and strength were enough for one and a half starting rounds. Then Fury took control of everything. No, Chisora tried to move forward, attacked in a sweeping manner, thrust powerful hooks into the body, but against the background of a fast, sharp and mobile Fury, Derek looked, to put it mildly, not very good. Plus, due to speed, timing and anthropometry, the Gypsy King calmly broke Chisora at a distance, punching any punches of his choice, and the number of power punches taken by Derek was really impressive.

And even stopping the fight, which looked rather unusual, was absolutely correct. Chisora was already simply on the moral and strong-willed kept in the ring, and the tonnage of blows received by Derek, grew downright at a terrifying rate.

The result is a natural, well-deserved and predictable victory for Fury, who spent a little effort and earned a solid fee to achieve it. And, perhaps, he warmed up before the fight with Usyk. By the way, Alexander himself gave perhaps the most accurate and vivid description of the Fury-Chisora fight – “good sparring”.

But at the same time, Fury did not fulfill the main task – he did not avoid injury. He will need at least six weeks to recover, which means the date of the fight with Usyk is shifted again.

Who and what can now interfere with the Usyk-Fury fight?

IBF and Filip Hrgovic, whom the International Boxing Federation appointed as the official contender in its version and obliged Usyk to defend, giving the boxer’s teams time to agree. In order not to talk about the importance and significance of the unification fights, the priority for each of the sanctioning organizations is their titles. And many, if not all, outstanding boxers and champions had to put up with, face and adapt to this.

Alexander Krasyuk has already stated that Usyk will not give up the IBF title, since his main goal is the absolute championship, which requires belts in all four major versions. Fury, on the other hand, made it clear that mandatory defense is Usyk’s problem, he himself doesn’t put the IBF title in a penny, so let the Ukrainian deal with this issue.

And if so, then the task of Usyk’s team is to agree with Hrgovic on the postponement of the mandatory defense, for the sake of Alexander’s opportunity to hold a unification fight. Will the Croat go for it, realizing that if the Ukrainian loses, his chances for a title fight will decrease (we all remember and know how Fury behaves in such cases), the big question is. And the position of the IBF looks very clear so far – at the moment, the mandatory defense of Usyk is a priority.

Let’s not forget who’s running Hrgovic’s business. British promoter Eddie Hearn, who also takes care of Joshua, knows how to make his fighters need and important fights. So it’s going to have to be negotiated with him first and whether Hearn is willing to miss out on a chance to try and get even one of the heavyweight championship belts back on his team remains to be seen.

Moreover, the WBA intervened. In any case, the head of the promotional company Top Rank, Bob Arum, assured that the mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title, Filip Hrgovic, will not interfere with the unification fight between WBA / WBO / IBF champion Alexander Usyk and WBC belt holder Tyson Fury. According to Arum, the WBA took its word in this situation, which officially notified the IBF that Usyk’s next title defense should take place through her line. And if so, then Usyk should fight the next fight either against Joe Joyce or against Daniel Dubois.

In general, it becomes interesting.

So will Usyk-Fury fight?

Most likely yes. In any case, now the chances of holding it – after Fury’s statements and Usyk’s visit to London – have increased. Yes, if the words of the Gypsy King can be trusted with a stretch, then it is unlikely that Usyk flew to London just to watch the fight of his former rival with the future, and also to sit and talk with Joe Joyce, who can also become an opponent of the Ukrainian.

But the most important thing is that everything will now depend on Usyk’s team. More precisely, from Alexander Krasyuk and his ability to negotiate and negotiate. Krasyuk organized the last five fights of Usyk together with Eddie Hearn, whose influence and status were mentioned above. Now, it is possible that the British functionary, whose main asset is Anthony Joshua, will play on the other side. And this can already create certain problems.
