Arum: Hrgovic won’t be an obstacle for Usyk-Fury fight as WBA tells IBF it’s not their time

The next defense of Usyk’s titles should take place through the WBA, and this organization will not interfere with the unification fight

Head of Top Rank Bob Arum explained why the mandatory challenger for the IBF heavyweight title Filip Hrgovic will not interfere with the unification fight between the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC belt holder Tyson Fury.

According to Arum, the WBA has officially notified the IBF that Usyk’s next title defense should take place through her line. At the same time, the WBA is ready to wait until Usyk fights Fury.

“Hrgovic will not be an obstacle as the WBA has told the IBF that this is not their time. Now it’s the turn of the mandatory defense of the WBA title. I think the mandatory challenger there is Dubois or Joyce, one of them. And they will give permission for the unification fight. The WBA actually sent an official letter to the IBF and we were privileged to see a copy of it.”

“Kalle Sauerland said that negotiations are underway for the Hrgovic-Usik fight in Croatia? I do not believe in this. Sauerland is a good guy, but you can’t believe what he says.”

It was previously reported that Fury does not want the IBF belt at stake in the battle with Usyk. The International Boxing Federation has named Croat Filip Hrgovic as the mandatory challenger for the title. Fury does not intend to pay the IBF fine for the fact that the defense of the belt does not take place.

Recall that Fury defeated Chisora and retained the WBC heavyweight title. After the fight, Fury called Usyk into the ring. Boxers had a duel of views

Fury planned his next fight against Usyk in February-March 2023. However, Fury’s injury could affect the timing of the fight with Usyk. Tyson injured his hand in a duel with Chisora. Recovery will take 6-8 weeks.
