17th victory of Denis in the professional ring
WBO International Lightweight Champion Denis Berinchyk (17-0, 9 KOs) defeated French EBU title holder Ivana Mendy (47-6-1, 22 KO) in the unification battle.
The duel between Berinchik and Mendy went the whole distance. The Ukrainian champion seized the initiative from the first round and dictated the pace of the fight.
Denis moved better and threw more punches than his opponent. In the last rounds, Mendy hit Berinchyk several times, but the Ukrainian responded to the Frenchman with his punches.
According to the results of 12 rounds, all judges gave victory to Berinchyk: 117-111, 116-112, 116-112. Denis defended his WBO International belt for the seventh time and became the new EBU lightweight champion.
The fight between Berinchyk and Mendy took place on the undercard of the fight between WBC world champion Tyson Fury and Derek Chisora. The evening of boxing is hosted by Tottenham Stadium in London.
Berinchyk won his 17th victory in the professional ring. Mendy also suffered the sixth defeat in his career.
It was Berinchyk’s first fight in a year. In December 2021, Denis defeated the Russian Isa Chaniev by unanimous decision.
