For the UFC, Ketlen Vieira beat Holly Holm, but the result of the fight was questionable in the eyes of many and the Brazilian defended herself against the criticism
Ketlen Vieira hit Holly Holm at the UFC by split decision and a lot of people complained about the final result of the fight. In the opinion of many, the Brazilian should not have come out with the victory, as she suffered a series of blows. However, in an interview for “Combate”, the winner of the fight put her point of view on the subject and made it clear that her result was deserved.
Ketlen Vieira’s main argument against Holly Holm is a rear naked choke she gave her rival. During the confrontation, the Brazilian managed to immobilize the American and the opponent almost hit the canvas and asked for the end of the fight. However, the referee got in the middle and prevented her from leaving the fight. In this way, she believes that she deserved the victory and also warns that she is the number 1 contender in the UFC in the bantamweight division.

In the second round, I thought she hit, I even gave it a little slack and she slyly left because of her experience. I felt it was very tight, she gave it a few touches, and when I saw the referee very close, I thought he was coming (to finish) and she left at once. I said, “I’ll keep going, if she left and nobody said anything, I’ll keep looking for victory“, analyzed.
“I thought I had done enough, at the end of the fight I raised my arm, but we don’t know what the referee is seeing. I gave her several hard blows, she swung several times, I think I was quite blunt, she stayed there on the fence just wanting to tie so she wouldn’t have a striking game, she’s looking for a safer game for her. But I thought I deserved it, I looked for the win all the time, I came close to a submission – for me, I submitted” followed the fighter.
After the victory against Holm in the UFC, Ketlen Vieira is confident that he can fight for much more in the division: “I usually say it’s one step at a time. Now I’m the number 1 contender, there’s no way. I took tough women in the UFC, I took several challengers, I took (Sara) McMann, I took Cat Zingano, who was the only one who had beaten Amanda, I beat Miesha, who was a former champion, now Holly Holm, who is a former champion. Dude, I’m challenger number 1.”
