Honored boxing coach of the USSR Valery Belov died on Saturday at the age of 76, the press service of the Russian Boxing Federation reports.
The Federation mourns this untimely loss and expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Valery Ivanovich Belov.
Belov worked as an assistant coach in the junior and main national teams of the USSR. He also coached former absolute world champion Kostya Tszyu, Olympic champion Alexander Povetkin, former WBA and IBF world champion Denis Lebedev, Roman Romanchuk, Andrey Mishin.
– For success in the training of boxers, Valery Ivanovich was awarded the medal “For valiant work”, the Order “Star of the Fatherland”, the badge “For merit in the Moscow region”, the badge of honor “For merit in the Development of physical culture and sports in the Moscow region”, honorary badge of “Peter the Great”, reads the text.
Povetkin said that Belov “will forever be in his memory.”
– He devoted his life to boxing and contributed enormously to its development in our country. I am very grateful for the fate that linked me to this wonderful person and coach. He will forever be in my memory,” the 43-year-old athlete wrote on social media.
