Athletistic/ Boxing. One of the biggest fights in the boxing world was announced the day before: the Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will have a third fight with a Kazakh boxer Gennady Golovkin.

The boxers have met twice before. Alvarez and Golovkin first fought at super middleweight in 2017. Then the match ended in a draw. In 2018, Alvarez won a rematch via split decision.

The results of both fights were criticized by both fans and media, especially the first fight, but now Alvarez and Golovkin will have a chance to end all disputes.

As reported by Forbes, Alvarez will return to the 168-pound weight division, where he is the undisputed champion, and defend his four super middleweight titles against Golovkin. The third bout is set to take place on September 17.

While the location of the fight has yet to be confirmed, the superfight is expected to take place in Las Vegas, where the first two fights took place.

Golovkin, 40, will step up for the first time after spending his entire career at middleweight, where he is currently the unified IBF and WBA world super middleweight champion.

As for Canelo, he moved up from light heavyweight, where he had his last fight against Dmitry Bivol and was defeated by unanimous decision.

At the same time, Alvarez does not refuse to take revenge on Bivol. Promoter Eddie Hearn has previously said the fight against Golovkin will happen “now or never”. Canelo could therefore have a rematch with the Russian next May (after the Golovkin fight).

Alvarez has already reacted to the official announcement of the third fight with Kazakhstan representative Gennady Golovkin.

“I’m really happy when I have the opportunity to present you with the best fights and this one will be no exception. It’s time to finish what we started and defend our titles. September 17th of this year” , Alvarez said in a post.

Alvarez, 31, has 57 wins (39 by KO), two losses and two draws.

Golovkin, 40, has 42 wins (37 by knockout), one loss and one draw.
