Court acquits McGregor in social media defamation case against Lobov

Ireland’s High Court rejects mixed martial arts fighter’s claim Artem Lobov on issuing ruling requiring former UFC champion in two weight classes Conor McGregor remove allegedly defamatory social media posts, Talksport reports.

Lobov previously said McGregor launched a “concerted social media attack” in an effort to intimidate and defame him. The former champion repeatedly called Lobov a “rat”, as well as a defector and sausage.

Judge Garrett Simon found that the word “rat” was just one of many offensive terms used by McGregor in reference to his former friend. Simon viewed McGregor’s posts as “rants, a tirade of vulgar insults” with a hint of thrash talk (statements intended to piss off an opponent).
