Former interim WBA middleweight champion next fight with Liam Smith on January 21
Former World Middleweight Champion Chris Eubank Jr. (32-2, 23 KO) shared plans for 2023 after his fight with Liam Smith (32-3-1, 19 KOs). The Briton, in case of victory, wants to meet with the world middleweight champion from Kazakhstan Gennady Golovkin and undisputed world super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
“Golovkin is number one because he has these middleweight belts and this is a fight that can and should be made. I think Canelo would be number two. He is a big name. This is the guy everyone knows in the sport and I think I can beat him. Those will be two fights on my Christmas wish list for the rest of the year.”
On the night of September 18, Alvarez defeated Golovkin by unanimous decision and defended his titles. Saul later underwent surgery on his left wrist. Canelo plans to return to the ring in May. Saul’s possible opponent is WBO mandatory contender John Ryder.
Recall that Eubank Jr. twice owned the title of interim WBA middleweight champion. In the last fight in February 2022, Chris defeated Liam Williams by decision. The Eubank Jr. fight will take place on January 21 in Manchester.
