Canelo: Golovkin never stopped talking about me

The third fight will take place in September

Undisputed World Super Middleweight Champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez shared his expectations from the third fight against Gennady Golovkinwhich will take place on September 17th.

The Mexican will defend four super-middleweight titles for the first time, and Golovkin’s upcoming fight will be his debut in this weight class.

“With him [Головкиным] there were always personal moments. It will never disappear. After our two fights, I still feel it. He never stopped talking about me. But, you see, I never mentioned his name once,” Canelo said.

“I was always on his lips, he never stopped talking about me, and this makes our rivalry more personal. It makes me train harder. I work harder. Honestly, sometimes I even feel better knowing it.”

Alvarez and Golovkin had two fights in 2017-18: the first match ended in a draw, and the Mexican won the second by a majority decision.

In May, Canelo suffered the second loss of his career, losing to Russian Dmitry Bivol in a light heavyweight championship fight.

Golovkin defeated Rieta Murata in April to unify three middleweight championship belts.
