Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Javier Mendez have been named Coaches of the Year by MMA Junkie.
– Last year, Nurmagomedov and Mendez formed a coalition that made inroads into MMA across multiple promotions. In 2022, the coaches have won 19 fights and lost two. They have won titles in the UFC and Bellator, and have also trained several fighters in the UFC, Bellator and ONE Championship.
Russia’s Islam Makhachev (23-1) under Nurmagomedov and Mendez became the UFC lightweight champion, and Usman Nurmagomedov (16-0) became the Bellator champion in the same division.
