Interim WBO world champion says their fight will get a lot of attention
Interim WBO World Champion Joe Joyce said he would be interested in fighting the former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
“It’s not surprising that Joshua remembered my name, because when did he do it? Except when I was in the Olympics, once I turned pro, he didn’t mention me or Eddie Hearn.”
“If you are not with us, you are against us and I don’t have millions of followers like Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury yet. Maybe it’s because I don’t have enough followers.”
“If people want to see this fight, let it happen. I think it needs to be prepared and when he has no choice but to fight me, he will fight me. But it’s a big fight, Olympic gold against Olympic silver. Maybe the medals should have been swapped, I think I’m more deserving.”
“He is not shy about a gunfight, but he is afraid of being knocked out because he has been knocked out several times. He prefers to be in the shadows and out of danger. We’ll see that in his rematch with Dillian Whyte.”
“Because in the fight with White he was hit with heavy blows, he was wobbly on his feet, but he was still going forward. Something has clearly changed since losing to Ruiz, but he is still a good fighter and he has a lot of interesting fights and I would love to fight him too.”
Joyce knocked out Joseph Parker in his last fight to become the interim WBO heavyweight champion. After defeating Parker, Joyce challenged Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk to fight.
Earlier, promoter Eddie Hearn commented on Joshua’s upcoming plans. Hearn also said that Joshua will fight his next fight in March-April. Joshua himself said he wants to enter the ring in the next fight with Dillian Whyte.
