The Ukrainian will fight for the interim IBF world champion belt
IBF Inter-Continental welterweight title holder Karen Chukhadzhyan (21-1, 11 KOs) said that he intends to surprise boxing fans in the fight for the interim IBF world champion belt. American Jaron Ennis (29-0, 27 KOs) is considered a clear favorite in the upcoming fight with the Ukrainian.
“First of all, I would like the fans to be happy with the fight they will see. And I’m also planning on making a surprise, so that’s the second point I’d like to make. I want them to be surprised at the end.”
At the weigh-in before the fight, Chukhadzhyan was almost 0.3 kg heavier than his opponent. Karen weighed in at 66.32 kg (146.2 lb), while the American reached 66.04 kg (145.6 lb).
Chukhadzhyan vs. Ennis will take place on January 7 in Washington DC. In the main fight of the evening of boxing, the holder of the WBA Regular lightweight title Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) and the undefeated Dominican Hector Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs) should meet.
Chukhadzhyan’s last fight was in early July last year. Karen defeated Australian Blake Minto to defend his IBF Inter-Continental title.
