The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has canceled the obligation for the owner of the organization’s championship belt in the heavyweight division of Ukraine Oleksandr Usyk to defend the title against the Croatian Philippe Hrgovic .
The IBF in mid-November forced Usyk into negotiations for a duel with Hrgovic, but the World Boxing Association (WBA) then informed the organization that she was next in line under the ‘rotation’ system. established by the IBF, the WBA, the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
“Based on the information provided, the IBF rescinds Usyk’s order to enter into negotiations with Hrgovic for a mandatory defense of the title,” IBF CEO Daryl Peoples said in a letter, citing boxing scene .
After the mandatory WBA title defense, the winner of the fight will have 180 days to defend the IBF title.
Earlier, it was reported that Usyk, who also owns the WBA and WBO belts, may have a unification bout with WBC champion, Briton Tyson Fury, in February-March 2023.
