One of the main obstacles on the way to the fight for the title of absolute world champion has been eliminated
International Boxing Federation (IBF) rescinded its mandatory title defense order Oleksandr Usyk with the applicant Filip Hrgovic.
“On November 14, 2022, the WBA notified the IBF that the WBA is next in the “rotation” system set by the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO. The IBF agrees with this rotation.”
“Based on this information, the IBF is rescinding Oleksandr Usyk’s order to begin negotiations with Filip Hrgovic for a mandatory heavyweight title defense,” said IBF President Daryl Peoples.
Previously, the IBF ordered Usyk to defend his belt in a fight with Hrgovic. The head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, said that Hrgovic would not interfere with the unification fight between Usyk and Tyson Fury, since Usyk’s next title defense should take place through the WBA line.
After receiving an order for a mandatory title defense, Hrgovic’s representatives demanded negotiations on a duel with Usyk. At the same time, the WBA called on other boxing organizations to join forces so that the fight for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion took place.
Earlier, promoter Frank Warren said that his team had sent a draft contract for the unification fight to Usyk’s representatives. Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the most effective working date for the fight with Fury is March 4th.
