WBA Russian Light Heavyweight Champion (Super) Dmitry Bivol was recognized as the best boxer of 2022 by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA), according to the organization’s website.
Bivol became the first Russian boxer to receive this title in the award’s 84-year history.
– It’s an honor. I am so happy. Glad to hear about this historic achievement. When I was little, I followed those who received this award, and now I am one of them. I forever marked the history of boxing. I am very proud of my team, they are the best in boxing, my manager and my trainer.
I didn’t expect it, but after beating (Gilberto) Ramirez, I thought I was going to have a great year. I believed in my abilities and I worked hard. I can draw a line under this year knowing that I did a good job. Thank you to my team and the people who supported me,” said Bivol.
The 32-year-old boxer has 21 victories (11 by KO) in the professional ring. Bivol, after defeating Mexicans Saul Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez, has been recognized as the best boxer of 2022 by numerous publications and organizations, including the WBA. Moreover, the Russian was named the best by pundits.
