Double Olympic champion Alexei Tishchenko after defeating Venezuelan Neomar Sermeno in his first professional ring fight, he said he was happy to end his career in his native Omsk.
Tishchenko defeated former world champion Venezuela by unanimous decision in a four-round bout on Friday. Even before the fight, the 37-year-old boxer said in an interview with that this fight would be a “one-off action”.
– I am satisfied to have knowingly accepted this kind of adventure. I think few athletes will dare to try themselves in the ring after such a long break. I accepted, and it was not easy, especially in preparation. After the first half of the fight, I felt tired and lethargic, but thanks to the stands, which gave me strength.
I want to thank my opponent, he took a very long time to get to Omsk and arrived literally four hours before the start of the tournament. He has great respect. I don’t understand what state he was in when you were on the road for so long. I won’t say he put up a strong resistance, but he acted in an uncomfortable way.
This is my first and last fight. It makes no sense, I accepted this invitation only because the tournament is taking place in my native Omsk. I wanted to please my city. The final deal of my career took place in my hometown, I’m very happy about it! I always dreamed of having the last fight of my career in Omsk. My dream has come true,” said Tishchenko, whose words “” were provided by tournament organizers.
Tishchenko announced his retirement in February 2011.
