George insists on a fight with the Ukrainian
Former Undisputed World Lightweight Champion George Kambosos announced his readiness to fight the ex-world champion in three divisions Vasily Lomachenko in Australia.
“I really want to continue to achieve more and I know that I will become a two-time world champion. With all due respect to Lomachenko and no matter what happens in this fight [с Хейни]I would still like to get in the ring with Lomachenko, no matter how older he is or how he looks.”
“That fight was almost done when I had all the belts. So I would like to have this fight and maybe have a big fight in a stadium here in Australia. We are big names here. I have a big name, he has a big name. Obviously, we can fill this stadium as much as possible.”
Kambosos lost to Haney twice for the WBC, WBA Super, IBF and WBO lightweight titles. In the second fight in Melbourne, all the judges gave the victory to Haney: 119-109, 118-110, 118-110.
Vasily Lomachenko could have held a title fight with Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Lomachenko defeated American Jemaine Ortiz in his last fight. For the Ukrainian, this was the first and only fight for 10 months.
According to the results of the fight, all three judges gave the victory to Lomachenko – 115:113, 116:112 and 117:111. For the Ukrainian, this victory was the 17th in the professional ring, for the American, the loss was the first defeat in the pros.
Lomachenko is scheduled to fight Devin Haney in mid-March 2023. The fight could take place in the Middle East, in Las Vegas or at Madison Square Garden in New York.
