Russian Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Ivan Shtyrkov told that the departure of the Cameroonian Francois Ngannou of the UFC is no surprise.
On Sunday, UFC chief Dana White said Ngannou had vacated his heavyweight belt and could “fight anywhere.” The parties could not agree on a new contract. Ngannou has been playing in the UFC since 2015, in the championship he has won 12 times with two losses. The Cameroonian won the heavyweight title in March 2021 in a fight with Stipe Miocic. The Cameroonian managed to hold a defense against Cyril Gan.
– Ngannou’s departure shows that there really are other leagues in the world besides the UFC that are willing to pay fighters decent money. Yeah, for UFC fans, it’s a very strong brand that’s interesting to watch. But from the fighters point of view, and fighting for them is hard work… There are other leagues you can play in. If I understand correctly, Ngannou and the UFC have been in dialogue for some time. And in general, his departure from the UFC came as no surprise, Shtyrkov told .
The vacant UFC heavyweight belt will be contested by Jon Jones and Cyril Gun on March 5.
