Investors from Saudi Arabia negotiate with boxers separately
Promoter Bob Arum said that the WBO / WBA / IBF / IBO world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk wants equal distribution of income between boxers in a unification bout with the WBC title holder Tyson Fury. Now the parties are waiting for proposals from investors from Saudi Arabia, who intend to financially secure the fight.
“The fighters agreed to fight. I spoke to Frank Warren. We give them until the end of the week to come up with an offer. I think we will get it. If this does not happen, then we will fight at Wembley. And then we have to talk about percentages because Usyk wants 50/50. It’s not right if the fight is at Wembley because there will be 95,000 Brits and big British money per view, so Tyson deserves the lion’s share.”
“But this will not happen if investors from Saudi Arabia come. They make deals with each of the fighters. We were assured that the offer would come this week. I’ll believe it when I see it, but they’ve already agreed that way in the past.”
A unification fight between Usyk and Fury could take place in February or March of this year. Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the most effective working date for the fight with Fury is March 4th.
Promoter Frank Warren said the bout between the Ukrainian and the Brit could include a rematch clause.
