Laishev says world judo champion Shkalov is on the mend after undergoing surgery

Vice-president of the All-Russian Sambo Federation Renat Laishev, in a conversation with , said that five-time world sambo champion, world judo champion Vladimir Shkalov is feeling better after suffering a heart attack.

Earlier, Laishev told that Shkalov had surgery after a heart attack and stents were placed. The hospitalization of Shkalov, 65, was reported by on January 13.

– I spoke with him for a very long time, I am very happy that his voice, as always, is optimistic. I wish our great champion, chairman of the presidium of the CSKA veterans’ movement, a speedy recovery, as well as my best wishes to his family and friends.

Is he still in the hospital when they come out?

“So far at the hospital they are not talking about the discharge date yet, but it is good that he is on the mend,” Laishev said.
