Middleweight in Moscow on Friday Valery Myasnikov defeated Armen Torosyan by unanimous decision in his first fight at AMC Fight Nights. Looking ahead, Myasnikov himself later admitted that he signed a contract with the league for just one fight.
Since 2019, Myasnikov has competed in the ASA, where he has won two out of four fights. In the last fight, the Russian lost to fellow countryman Hussein Kushagov in July. In total, Myasnikov has 16 wins, three losses and two draws in MMA.
After beating Torosyan, Myasnikov, 31, spoke in detail about the significance of the triumph, expressed his surprise at the lukewarm support from his compatriots during his career and also humorously answered questions about the middleweight most popular in Russia, Magomed Ismailov.
“NOW I’M A FREE AGENT”
– What can be the emotions after the victory? Only the most positive! After all, after preparation, the battle is passing the exam. Passing the exam is a holiday, ”Myasnikov began to communicate.
– Your opponent has changed in a few weeks and Torosyan left at short notice.
– It is not the first time. If the fight had been postponed, it would have been much sadder. You have to adapt all your life, because there is no perfect preparation. Never in my life have I had perfect preparation, it’s kind of a mythical story. And replacing an opponent is the same adaptation.
– You first played AMC Fight Nights after leaving the ASA, where you were defeated in your last fight – in July against Hussein Kushagov.
– In terms of psychology, it adds confidence that I can put on competitive fights with young guys. And I grow, I develop tactically. My career is growing. I’m glad I got to participate in Fight Nights. Because I used to play both M-1 and ASA.
– Now you may participate in the ACA again, because it is about buying the ACA League Fight Nights.
– I am now a free agent, with Fight Nights I had an agreement for a fight. So expect great news from me. But for now, I won’t reveal anything. While I’m going to move to Russia. I would like to win media rivals.
– Is there a chance to see you in MMA pop?
– Everything is possible.
“MAGOMED ISMAILOV IS CHALLENGED AND IT LOOKS STUPID”
– After your fight with Torosyan, Magomed Ismailov, a fighter in your weight class, entered the cage. Did you ever think it would be cool to fight him?
– Magomed Ismailov is now challenged by everyone. And that’s inappropriate. If only to illuminate… To me, when high profile, media fighters like Magomed are called out, it goes like this – you somehow try to hang on and bark. To me it looks stupid when someone is called for no reason. “Here I call you, beep-beep-beep.” Although there is no hate, no history. When you can’t prove something in a cage, you try to be somehow called back into a cage. Seems like after the bars people yell at each other and get pulled apart.
– Tell us, what did you talk about with Ismailov in the cage?
– They gave me a bath broom and a hat. So I say, “When will we go to the bathhouse?” (Laughs). He said to me, “Bro, I’m going to hug you, but only when you wash and dry off.” We know Magomed in absentia, we trained at the same club, we met in Thailand.
– That is, you had a joint fight with Ismailov?
Yes, we worked together. Nostalgic memories – great time, great experience. Sparring was very competitive (laughs).
“Do you remember this Magomed?” Was he joking too?
Yes, yes, he was always a positive guy. That’s all (smiles). Always positive.
“I WAS IN KAZAKHSTAN, AND THERE WAS SUPPORT. AND IN RUSSIA WE SAID: “YES IT’S A BAG”
– During the battle you had serious support.
– We have a lot of fans in Russian MMA – sofa, they only criticize. But such support, as it is now, must be equal. Look at the Tajik and Armenian fighters. You can list athletes of different nationalities. Kyrgyz, Kazakh… I was in Kazakhstan and the guys supported me there. And in Russia: “Yes, it’s a bag.” And the guys from Dagestan, Kazakhstan, Chechnya write to me and support me, but you don’t see such support from your own people, but you see criticism. A bit of dissonance and wildness. So I urged to be equal to those fans (who were in the arena). It sets the mood and you get high in the cage.
“Will the day come when we all get together?”
I hope everyone will treat each other with respect. And resolve conflicts in a cage, and shake hands accordingly.
You have a Nate Diaz T-shirt.
“He’s a man who is who he is. He doesn’t draw… We are guys from the periphery. Industrialists from Lobnya (laughs).
– In conclusion, can you tell us about the reasons for your departure from the ASA?
– Without reason. My contract ended, I decided to take a break. There were proposals to speak on the fist, on professional boxing. I even accepted the offer for the cam, but at times the tournament didn’t happen. And in Fight Nights they made an offer for a fight in conditions no worse than in ACA.
