Tyson talks about the uniqueness of the duel with the Ukrainian
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury believes that his fight against the holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO titles Oleksandr Usyk will be the battle of the century.
“This is the fight of the century. If you remember, the first fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier was promoted as the fight of the century. And before this fight, there was another big heavyweight fight between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney that was called for centuries.”
“Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is the first fight in history for four heavyweight belts. This has not been done before. Lennox Lewis was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, but he did not hold four titles. This is the era of four belts, so this will be the first time a heavyweight has been undisputed champion with four titles in a fight of the century.”
“We are two undefeated champions. I am a two-time champion and he is a two-time champion in two weight divisions. So it’s a very interesting fight. A giant will face a regular-sized heavyweight. But it will also be a slick southpaw against a giant who counterattacks, comes forward and does it all. I can just as well do whatever he does.”
According to promoter Frank Warren, the Usyk-Fury fight is scheduled for late March – early April. According to promoter Bob Arum, the date and place of the fight should be determined next week.
Warren also said that the duel between the Ukrainian and the British could include a revenge clause.
And Bob Arum claims that Usyk wants an equal distribution of income between boxers in a unification fight with Fury.
