The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) expressed its condolences following the death of three-time world champion Alexander Pushnitsa.
On Friday it became known that Pushnitsa died at the age of 74.

Alexander Mikhailovich will forever remain a legend of Soviet and world sambo. Behind his outstanding successes and achievements lie hard work, enormous capacity for work, and a desperate desire to win. He devoted his life to practicing and popularizing Sambo.
Today, the entire sambist community and martial arts enthusiasts have suffered an irreparable loss. The fond memory of the exceptional sambo wrestler, a sincere and wonderful person will forever remain in our hearts,” reads a message on the official ISAF website.
Pushnitsa is a three-time world champion, two-time European champion, nine-time USSR champion, three-time World Cup winner. He received the highest Dynamo award “For merits in the development of Dynamo society”, received the highest award of the Omsk region – a gold medal “For special services to the region of Omsk”.
