Artem will defend his WBA belt on January 28 in London at Wembley with Costa Rican Jimenez
Ukrainian WBA bantamweight champion Artem Dalakyan (21-0, 15 KOs) commented on the upcoming fight against a boxer from Costa Rica David Jimenez (12-0, 9 KOs).
Dalakyan also spoke about the war in Ukraine. According to the boxer, he is waiting for the victory of his country and believes in its heyday after the end of hostilities and restoration.
“I think it’s right that Russian boxers are banned because their country is the aggressor. We don’t have to watch them. When I signed the contract, I did not know that the main event would be Beterbiev Yard. If I had known, perhaps I would have chosen a different date. They say he’s Canadian now but I’m just focused on my fight even though I want Yard to win.”
“I never stopped training when the war started. I have four children, and by law [в Украине]if you have four children, you are not required to join the army. I forced my family to leave and took them out of the country and then returned. This is scary and sad, and we are waiting for the victory of Ukraine so that it can again be a prosperous country. I haven’t seen my family in five months, but I’m talking to them on FaceTime. I hope the war will be over by summer and they will all be able to return home.”
“All athletes support Ukraine and fight for peace. I know Usyk and Lomachenko well, because we were in the national team when I was 18 years old. In the future, all Ukrainian boxers will show how strong our country is.”
“I expect a successful title defense but I think it will be a good fight for the British fans. I have been preparing for this fight for six months. I watched the fights of Jimenez, I respect him as a boxer. But I think I can handle everything.”
Artem will defend his WBA belt on January 28 in London at Wembley. Dalakyan vs. Jimenez will take place on the undercard of the fight between Arthur Beterbiev and Anthony Yarde.
The fight between Dalakyan and Jimenez will be shown on the Football 2.0 YouTube channel. Broadcast start – 0 21:00 Kyiv time.
Dalakyan, 34, won the world title in 2018. In November 2021, in a duel against Luis Concepción, the Ukrainian successfully defended the belt for the fifth time.
