Bivol’s coach said he wasn’t too impressed with the fight between Beterbiev and Yard

Gennady Mashyanov training WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol appreciated the victory of the Russian Artur Beterbiev on Britain’s Anthony Yard.

On Saturday in London, Beterbiev defeated Britain’s Anthony Yarde by eighth-round technical knockout and defended his WBC, WBO and IBF light heavyweight titles.

– Beterbiev won the fight, but the fight itself didn’t impress much. Can’t say anyone was clearly winning at the time of the stoppage, fifty-fifty. Arthur stepped forward. Before the fight, I said that due to excess muscle mass, the Brit would start to slow down. That’s what happened in the middle of the battle. But Beterbiev himself did not have high speed. Came forward and ended it. All the story. Technically and tactically I was not impressed.

I see no reason for a rematch, even if Yard was leading on the scorecards when the fight ended. Anthony was a candidate. Arthur is a champion, he has defended titles. If Beterbiev lost, then yes, revenge. What kind of revenge if Arthur proves he’s stronger than Yard today? Won a labor victory. It was clear that victory was not easy for him, and if he hadn’t knocked, it’s not clear how everything would have turned out, but in technical terms Yard is a poor boxer,” Mashyanov told Metaratings.ru.
