UFC President Dana White said he never considered the Russian heavyweight Fyodor Emelianenko the greatest fighter.
On Sunday morning in Moscow, Fedor Emelianenko lost ahead of schedule to American Ryan Bader in a fight for the heavyweight championship belt at the Bellator 290 tournament. The fight ended in a technical knockout in the first round. After the fight, the Russian announced his retirement.
“He shouldn’t have fought anymore at 46. Of course he’s an adult and he makes his own decisions, but he should have quit a few years ago.
I don’t regret that we didn’t sign Fedor in the UFC. No disgust, it just didn’t happen, that’s all. We tried to make a deal, but how did it happen, how did it happen. I don’t want to say anything bad about this guy, he ended his career.
You see, I never thought Fedor was so good. He was knocked out by middleweight Dan Henderson. People love and praise him, but he never tested himself in our promotion. So I was never one of those who considered him the greatest fighter,” White said on the ‘MMA Junkie’ YouTube channel.
In total, Emelianenko has 40 wins and seven losses in MMA.
