Egorov became the winner of the tournament in the weight category up to 51 kg. The International Boxing Association (IBA) previously allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions without any restrictions.
“The atmosphere of the competition was excellent. It is first and foremost the pride of his country. We train to glorify the country, so that at each competition the anthem of the Russian Federation is played and our flag is hoisted. I was just happy that in honor of my victory the flag was raised and the anthem of Russia sounded, – Yegorov said on the air of the program “There is a theme! ” on the channel.
– What was the atmosphere of the other athletes and delegations?
– There was no tension. The atmosphere was very positive, even the Moroccans supported us. There was no negative. I think sport should be out of politics. Athletes should be like one big family.
– It is discussed that a number of countries want to boycott international boxing tournaments. How do you react to this?
There are times when nothing is up to you. Now the Americans are against our participation. We have to box and win, and what they say, who cares. God grant that we are allowed to compete under their own flag and anthem.
How were you welcomed at home?
– Very hot. We arrived on Sunday at noon in Vnukovo. There were a lot of people, a festive atmosphere, we rejoiced and we were happy. Then I flew to Sochi and today I’m flying back to Yakutsk.
The Russian team at the tournament in Morocco won 12 gold, five silver and five bronze medals.
