“Severe action will be taken against athletes who show lack of will and weakness” – Mamiashvili about the fight at the Poddubny tournament

President of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili During the International Young Olympians Forum, which takes place in Moscow on June 1, he told about the fight that took place during the tournament under the auspices of the federation.

On May 19, at the Poddubny International Wrestling League tournament in Moscow, fighters Islam Isaev and Ratmir Khairullin started a fight that turned into a mass brawl.

What are the federation’s plans?

– Today we will hold the executive committee. We will fix the day of the All-Russian Conference, in accordance with the charter. We will bring all the regions together, listen, they will listen to us, we will discuss the current situation – how should we proceed. Of course, timing issues under current conditions are of the highest priority. Serene and systematic work no longer suits anyone: you have to generate, engage, make the most of your obligations.

– What about tournaments?

– We organized an event – we created a professional league that does not limit the possibility of participation of foreign athletes. Even the Ukrainians. Sport is one of the platforms where the conditions for communication must be created in all circumstances. This is the meaning of the Olympic movement, which has always been outside political events, financial pressures, etc.

– There was a massive brawl at the tournament…

Not a big fight! The mass brawl is now taking place in other locations. There has been an incident, and this matter will also be raised in the executive committee, the strictest measures will be taken against athletes who show lack of will, weakness, a complete lack of character and education. It will not be a kind of punishment, namely a suspension of participation. In addition, financial expenses must also be incurred, because it was worth organizing this event,” said Mamiashvili.
