The American took the WBA, WBO and IBF championship belts from the Australian
Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) won George Kambosos (20-1, 10 KOs) in the fight for the title of undisputed world lightweight champion, which took place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
In the first half of the fight, the boxers mainly attacked with single punches from a distance. In the second, Haney continued to restrain Kambosos with a jab and periodically delivered right straight lines, the Australian tried to work combinationally, but did not really succeed.
From the ninth round, the fighters became more active, exchanging dangerous attacks. In the championship rounds, Kambosos tried to go forward, but Haney successfully evaded the opponent’s attacks, worked with a jab and countered.
The judges gave the victory to Haney by unanimous decision – 116:112, 116:112 and 118:110. Devin once again defended his WBC title and took away the WBA, WBO and IBF belts from Kambosos.
Haney won his 28th victory in the professional ring, and Kambosos suffered his first loss in his career.
