4 men’s teams will participate in the Yawara Challenge International Club Judo Tournament for the Lokomotiv Cup: Yavara-Neva, Lokomotiv (both from Russia), Red Star (Serbia) and SC Tehran (Iran). The competition will be held on June 17 as part of the sports and entertainment program of the XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“Yavara-Neva” is 10 times European judo champion among clubs and the current holder of this title. It should be noted that in the final of the Champions League in December 2021, the Russian club won against Red Star.
2016 Olympic champion Khasan Khalmurzaev will lead Yavara-Neva in the SPIEF Sport Week tournament. As part of the titled club from Saint Petersburg, there are also European champions Mikhail Igolnikov and Inal Tasoev. World champion Nemanja Maidov will captain Red Star Star.

Hosting the Yawara Challenge at SPIEF is an important contribution to strengthening Russia’s international ties with friendly countries through our sport, and we are grateful to the Roscongress Foundation for their support, and to Russian Railways, Lokomotiv IC for this opportunity this year — noted the Vice-President of the Russian Judo Federation Sergey Soloveichik.
The format of the competition is a round robin system – each of the teams will fight against all opponents. The Yawara Challenge arena for the Lokomotiv Cup will be the Vysota Sports Complex.
The club’s first Yawara Challenge judo tournament was also held last year as part of SPIEF’s sports and entertainment programme. Then, the men’s and women’s teams of the Yavara-Neva club called the Spanish teams AJM Madrid (men) and JC Valencia (women) to the mat. Following the results of the friendly matches, the two teams of the record holder of the Russian club, which gave its name to the competition, became the winners of the winner’s cup.
