Former world champion says boxing is behind UFC and YouTuber fights
Former two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton commented cancellation of the unification bout between WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury and WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“I think in the end, someone has to make small concessions. At the moment, it seems that there is no agreement. If these Tyson vs. Joshua and vs. Usyk fights don’t happen, it will be a terrible shame for boxing.”
“We have YouTubers fighting boxers, we have MMA stars fighting, and all that. So, to be honest, we are already behind and we will only catch up with these fake fights. We can’t get a Spence vs Crawford fight, we can’t get a Fury vs Usyk fight. This is why the UFC and YouTubers are overtaking boxing.”
Manager Egis Klimas said that the duel between WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO champion Oleksandr Usyk and Fury, scheduled for April 29, will not take place. According to Klimas, the Gypsy King’s team demanded too much, no matter how much Usyk compromised.
Promoter Oleksandr Krasyuk said that Usyk would soon begin talks about his next fight. The Ukrainian will prepare for the defense of titles according to one of the versions, which will be held in June or July.
Fury plans to fight his next fight this summer. His opponent could be interim WBO world champion Joe Joyce.
