The qualification of the boxing tournament for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris will take place, indicated the representative of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) Mark Adams.
The International Boxing Association (IBA), ahead of the IOC Executive Board, sent an open letter to IOC President Thomas Bach in which it “shared its deep concern about the fundamental principles of governance, impartiality and transparency”. IBA has announced that it is ready to sue the IOC over a possible violation of the agreement on the transfer of personal data of federation officials.
— We will continue to work on a fair and transparent selection system for the Paris Olympics. We have taken note of the letter from the IOC, the IBA should be clear on what they are going to do with it. As far as we know, qualifying for the 2024 Games will definitely happen,” Adams told a news conference.
Earlier, the IOC extended the suspension of the IBA. The boxing tournament at the 2024 Games in Paris, as well as at the Tokyo Olympics, will be organized by the IOC itself. At the same time, boxing is currently not on the program for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
