Possible Rival: Dillian Whyte
Promoter Eddie Hearn commented on the victory of the former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua above Jermain Franklin and shared plans for the next fight.
“It was a decent fight, not a particularly spectacular one. There was a lot of pressure on Anthony. Franklin gave a serious fight, showed a strong chin, he even shook a little, there were moments of survival. Anthony could have been more aggressive, tougher on the inside.”
“Anthony had three different coaches in his last three fights so he needed this win. He showed that the engine could run 12 rounds. Now let’s make plans for the summer.”
“Some fights missed their chance to organize, I mean Fury. I would like to give Anthony another fight under the leadership of Derrick James so that they strengthen their cooperation. Whyte would be a great fight. Now Joshua needs to get back to camp, he wants three fights this year so he needs to be back in the ring in July or August.”
Recall that in London, Joshua defeated Franklin by unanimous decision. The fight lasted all 12 rounds. All judges gave the victory to Joshua – 118-111 and twice 117-112.
This is the first victory for Joshua after two defeats in a row to Oleksandr Usyk. After his second loss to Usyk, Anthony negotiated a fight with WBC title holder Tyson Fury, but the parties failed to agree.
