President of the MMA Union of Russia Radmir Gabdullin told reporters that Fyodor Emelianenko will always be a true friend to him and he will never forget all the help he gave.
The election of the president of the MMA Union of Russia will take place on June 14 in Moscow. Gabdullin, who has led the organization since 2018, and vice president Andrey Terentyev are applying for the position. In April, it was announced that Emelianenko had resigned as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the MMA Union of Russia. Afterwards, Terentiev said that Gabdullin was asked to leave the post, but he refused. The Presidium recognized Gabdullin’s work as ineffective. Emelianenko accused Gabdullin of inconsistency, noting the reputational damage of his actions.
– Since April 1, I wanted to know what Emelianenko had in mind when he said that he did not agree with Gabdullin’s policy, so he left the MMA Union of Russia. What did “The Last Emperor” mean?
“I don’t know what he meant by policy and actions. You can ask him yourself, although he has already commented several times (on this situation). Everyone tries to wonder what the relationship looks like. I declare to everyone – Fedor was, is and will remain my friend. I have never forgotten and will never forget everything he did for me over many years.
I’ve come a long and thorny path in this sport: from athlete to public servant. I thank Fedor for his support, his recommendations, his trust. Everything that was… was and was. We must look to the future, negotiate, focus all our attention on our sport, both at home and abroad. You know what the current situation is – our athletes cannot participate in international competitions. We have to give them the possibility not to stop under any circumstances,” Gabdullin told a press conference at ‘s press centre.
– After this declaration by Emelianenko, did you communicate with him?
– We met at the Russian Championship in early June in Astrakhan. He was the guest of honor. But we didn’t have much time for a full conversation. I think we will definitely meet and talk. Once again I will say: this is my friend, brother and senior comrade.
At the end of May, learned that Emelianenko had asked the leaders of the regional federations to support Terentyev in the elections.
