IBA allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under their flags, contrary to IOC guidelines
Great Britain men’s team will not perform 2023 world boxing championship, which is scheduled in Tashkent from April 30 to May 14. The British Boxing Association is unhappy with the decision of the International Boxing Association (IBA) to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes under their national flags.
“We are worried about the future of boxing in the Olympic program. The IBA’s recent decision to allow boxing teams from Russia and Belarus to compete under their national flags is contrary to the position of the IOC.
Recall that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or the Republic of Belarus, are not allowed to participate in the tournaments.
British boxers have already boycotted the women’s world championship, which took place in March. Recall that the Ukrainian team refused to participate in the men’s and women’s tournaments due to the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
