The boxer, who began to hit the “invisible” in the ring, died without leaving a coma

South African boxer Simiso Buthelezi has died in a Durban hospital from brain damage. reported in a joint statement from the South African Boxing Federation and the athlete’s family.

Buthelezi faced compatriot Sifesile Mntungwa in an African lightweight title fight on Sunday. In the 10th round, Buthelezi knocked the opponent down, after which he moved to another corner of the ring and started punching in the air. The replays showed that the fighter had already received a heavy blow to the chin from Mntungwa.

The referee stopped the fight, after which Buthelezi was taken to the hospital, where it turned out that the boxer had suffered a head injury, which led to internal bleeding. The athlete was in critical condition and was plunged into an artificial coma. On June 7, he died.
