Three-time freestyle wrestling world championship medalist Andrei Shumilin has died at the age of 53, the press service of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) reports.
Shumilin died in Munich after a long illness.
– The Russian Wrestling Federation, the wrestlers and coaches of the Russian national freestyle, women’s and Greco-Roman wrestling teams send their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Andrei Anatolyevich, to the Kaliningrad region and to the entire community fight. We mourn deeply with you,” the post read.
Shumilin is the chairman of the Olympic Council of the Kaliningrad region. He has one gold and two bronze medals at the European Championships, as well as three World Cup victories.
