President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili stated that the criteria of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) on the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions, force them to become politicians.
– There should be no illusions, because any decision of the commissions will be synchronized with the position of the IOC. There are recommendations where one can speak of human humiliation and humiliation of civil dignity. We spoke clearly and understandably. It should not be any form of evaluation of events. We have always been taught that sport is outside of politics, and the idea of equal opportunities has always been conveyed to us, but now they are trying to set conditions and force any athlete to become a de facto politician.
We have to get away from that. The Swiss and the Italians come to train with us with pleasure. We have the strongest team, the best coaches. Coming to compete even in an academic job is an experience and an assessment of your current condition. Communication continues. But I agree that there is unprecedented pressure on public organizations, international organizations – the year 1937 is resting, – the correspondent reports Mamiashvili’s words.
On March 28, the IOC Executive Committee announced recommendations for the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions. Recommendations include individual clearance, status neutrality, banning team sports, and banning athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the CWO. A decision on the Paris 2024 Olympics will be taken “at the appropriate time”, said the IOC.
