“I don’t want conflicts, I just want him to change his mind a bit” – Sergey Kharitonov about Petr Yan

Russian Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Sergei Kharitonov says he criticized Petra Yana after losing a fight for the UFC bantamweight belt to well-meaning American Aljamain Sterling.

Petr Yan on April 10 in the United States lost a split decision to American Aljamain Sterling in the fight for the UFC bantamweight title. After the fight, Kharitonov said Jan had star sickness.

– You had an exchange of remarks with Petr Yan, after his defeat…

“Understand, I don’t want any conflicts, everything is said for him to change his mind a bit, to shake himself up a bit, to remember that he’s a simple guy. Because when you step into the cage, you are no longer a champion. You’re a champion when you get away with a belt. Even if you enter as a champion, you are already an ordinary guy, a competitor. He thinks he won on points, because he positioned himself as a champion, but Sterling was the champion, and on a tie, who gets the win? I don’t want people to say that Sergei Kharitonov does PR there or anything like that. I want our young guys not to play ahead and practice. He was already training in an imposing way, not like for the first fight. Remember how he showed himself in the first fight, he ripped, he made such beautiful throws, and in the second fight he already came out – there’s a little there, wave your arms and win the fight. No matter how he treats me, I hope he pulls himself together and prepares a lot harder.

Sit down and talk to him? Who knows, maybe we’ll sit down and talk, I’m not looking for conflicts.

– You were in the same team as Peter, how do you remember him?

“We’ll see each other one day and I’ll tell you.”
