The former world light heavyweight champion revealed why he decided to return to the ring.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk spoke about the reasons for continuing his professional career. According to the boxer, the financial part plays a major role.

The ex-world light heavyweight champion tried to make money outside the ring, but the Kremlin regime’s war-organized business was hampered.

“I have a family. I have three children. My husband was always against boxing and I thought I should find a way to live without it. I started my own business. It was successful until the war in Ukraine started … Then everything was covered.

After sparring with Canelo and Gilberto Ramirez, I felt like I was still in good shape and thought why not do it again. My fight was canceled and I didn’t expect an opponent like José Obando. I was aiming for someone more serious. I didn’t fire him. Obando is a tough fighter, but we both understand that we are on different levels.

In this case, I have the choice to fight him or not at all. I thought why not fight such an opponent to feel the ring, the distance and bring back the sensations I should have in the ring,” Gvozdik told The Ring.

It will be remembered that on May 6 Gvozdyk will fight Richard Bolotniks on the undercard of the fight between Saul Alvarez and John Ryder.

Earlier, Alexander Gvozdyk spoke about his main goal and plans for the future.
