Defended UFC Flyweight Champion (56.7 kg) Valentina Shevchenko explained why she gave up the traditional dance, which she usually performs in the octagon after winning fights.
Shevchenko, representing Kyrgyzstan, held another belt defense at a tournament in Singapore. This victory was the first for Valentina when the opinions of the judges were divided: two gave the victory to Shevchenko and another to the Brazilian Taila Santos.
“I was ready to do it, but even while preparing for the fight, my leg got hurt. And every week of training camp, the UFC Institute team worked to make sure that the my leg was getting better. But a few punches in this fight hurt my leg. And that’s the reason why I wasn’t ready to dance. I would like to understand how much the problem with the leg is serious, I hope there is nothing serious and I can return in the near future,” Shevchenko told a press conference.
Shevchenko, who defended the title for the 7th consecutive time, has 23 MMA wins with three losses, while Santos has 19 wins and two losses.
