– Before the fight with Malykhin, you went with a 16-0 record. How did you accept the first defeat of your career?
“From a professional point of view, the sport is an attraction: I take big risks, I go up to the higher weight classes and I challenge the most dangerous guys,” quotes ONE from Ridder. “Sometimes things don’t go the way I want them to. I could have done a lot better going into that fight, I could have done a lot better in the fight itself. To be honest, now I’m even glad it all turned out that way. Now I have something to settle and I will devote the whole year to it.
– What did Malykhin manage to do compared to your other rivals?
– Maybe I got a little arrogant before this fight, I got too sure of myself, too arrogant. You have to understand that it can happen after 16 wins. And I don’t want to brag, but those 16 times were pretty easy for me. I was never injured, I was almost never touched. Aung La maybe beat me a bit in our two matches. Maybe he hit me five or six times with his hard punches. Kamrian Abbasov never hit me. Vitaliy Bigdash didn’t beat me – I think it was a close fight, ie he hit me many times, I hit him many times.
– Would you like to see Malykhin again?
– There were two options: after the fight, I could leave. I was very sad that this happened. But I’m a very lucky guy, and I decided to do it for myself, to turn the loss into a positive. I know I can do it. I know I can beat this guy. And the return will be even sweeter after this defeat.
– How did you accept the offer to perform under the rules of submission battling with the star of this sport, Tai Ruotolo?
MMA is my main focus, but this fight is a great opportunity to show all my skills. It’s cool to have the chance to fight a young superstar like Tai. The last time I fought with his teacher, Professor André [Гальвао]. I didn’t have time to prepare. It was three weeks after my fight. I flew around half the world twice and wasn’t completely ready. So it’s great that this time I was able to fully prepare for the fight. I can’t wait to show you the new levels I’ve reached. This will be the start of my year back.
— What can we expect from your fight with Ruotolo in the ONE Fight Night 10 map and beyond?
– Explosive pace – I think you can expect that from both of us. We’re both going to be looking for submissions, aiming for tackles, and we’re both going to pick up the pace. I will beat Ty – I will strangle him. Then I’m going to have a middleweight fight, defend my belt. Then it will take some time to gain weight and by the end of the year become a real light heavyweight and defeat Malykhin.
