Russian boxers won 12 gold medals at the European Junior Championship, which was held in Armenia.
Karina Korobova (up to 50 kg), Anastasia Kool (up to 52 kg), Polina Spirina (up to 54 kg), Daria Panova (up to 75 kg), Sofia Okhotnikova (up to 81 kg), Nikita Debely (up to 48 kg), Vyacheslav Rogozin (up to 51 kg), Bilal Dakaev (up to 60 kg), Danil Belevitin (up to 63.5 kg), Matvey Varakin (up to 71 kg ), Mohdan Makhauri (up to 75 kg), Akhmed Rasuev (up to 92 kg) and Israfil Islamov (over 92 kg), according to the Russian Boxing Federation.
– The most important thing is that we won the first place in the team and fulfilled the plan established by the Russian Boxing Federation. They even overdid it a bit. I’m happy with all the girls, they all showed real fighting spirit. Sophia Okhotnikova made me very happy, who fought at a very high level both in the semi-finals and in the final, showed cool boxing from a technical point of view. Thanks to her coach for preparing such an athlete, said the head coach of the women’s team Alexander Mikhailov.
– The finals were not easy, as expected. We expected more from some guys, they didn’t show their best side. But overall, I’m happy with the team’s performance. We won seven out of a possible 13 gold medals, exceeding the original plan,” added Viktor Suprun, head coach of the men’s team.
In addition to 5 gold medals, the women’s team managed to win two silver and three bronze medals. The men’s team also has three silver and two bronze medals from the tournament.
