UFC fighter Zhalgas Zhumagulov told RB Sport he considers the American Aljamain Sterling favorite against Henry Cejudo but will be rooting for the latter.
– I see Sterling as the favourite, but I’m for Cejudo. I love that he became an Olympic champion and, you could say, defended the flyweight division when they wanted to shut it down.
– Will a three-year hiatus affect him?
– I got injured at some point, had surgery on my leg and missed two years, but it felt good. I think Cejudo will now be more motivated and rested. Sterling is a very strong, assertive fighter – once he fails he will always go all the way. Moreover, he has long limbs, a very big fighter for the lightest division. If he beats Cejudo, it will be difficult for him,” Zhumagulov said.
Sterling, 33, has won 22 MMA fights and lost three. In 2021 and 2022, Sterling has beaten Russian Petr Yan twice. Sterling defended his title against fellow American TJ Dillashaw via TKO in the second round of UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi on October 22.
Cejudo, 36, has won 16 times and lost twice.
