UFC president not interested in Usman vs. Chimaev fight at catchweight

UFC President Dana White answered the question of whether the fight could take place between Kamaru Usman And Khamzat Chimaev who offered to host the former UFC welterweight champion.

“What I don’t like about this fight is that Usman challenged him to a catchweight fight. I don’t do catchweight fights, I don’t like catchweights. Intermediate weights mean nothing. They mean absolutely nothing.

If Usman wants to move up to middleweight and fight Chimaev, we can discuss that. But trying to fight him at catchweight is not something I’m interested in,” White said, as quoted by MMA Mania, citing an interview with The Jim Rome Show.

Khamzat Chimaev has had 12 fights in MMA and won 12 times. Kamaru Usman has 20 wins in 23 fights.

Chimaev plans to fight his next fight in the middleweight division against former UFC title contender Paulo Costa. The fight could take place on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
