The fight took place in the first middleweight division and lasted all 12 rounds, ending with the victory for the Russian by a split decision of the judges.
For Kurbanov, 27, the win was the 25th straight (13 KOs) of his professional career as he became a contender for the WBA title. Soro, 35, suffered the fourth defeat of his career with 35 wins.
Jermell Charlo is the current WBA light middleweight champion.
