Russian kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter, former glory champion Artem Vakhitov told MMA.Metaratings.ru that he didn’t initially think about going into mixed martial arts, but suitable offers have been received .
– Offers to move into MMA flooded in during the Glory fights, when I defeated Alex Perreira and after the contract was terminated. I hadn’t thought about switching to MMA before, but things can change in a matter of days. We do not regret having decided on the transition and are ready to develop in another direction. Kickboxing and Thai boxing always remain in my heart, I love them and I’m ready to continue performing there.
When the contract with Glory was terminated, we considered offers in MMA and boxing and trained for general development, including the study of wrestling, throwing and control. In Thai boxing there are elements of standing up, twisting, balancing, so now some elements of wrestling are easy for me because that was worked out in Muay Thai. I also trained in boxing, I trained in wrestling twice a week. It was interesting, because it’s a completely different load, a different muscular work. Then we started getting offers, and the manager and I agreed on terms that were suitable for everyone,” Vakhitov said.
Vakhitov will make his MMA debut on June 11 at the Open FC 31 tournament in Sheregesh against Egypt’s Ashraf Bashandi.
Live broadcasts of mixed martial arts tournaments can be seen on the federal channel, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru websites.
